Former PSOJ President criticizes education and labour systems, for producing for a market that no longer exists

Former President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) Howard Mitchell has criticized Jamaica’s education and labour systems, for producing for a market that no longer exists.

He was responding to questions about human capital during Campion’s Founders month lecture, last evening.

Concern has been raised about professionals migrating for better jobs overseas, and about Jamaica training persons for exported labour.

Mr. Mitchell described it as ‘reverse middle passage’, in reference to the Atlantic Slave Trade.

He objected to the notion of imported labour.

Mr. Mitchell said Jamaica needs to train students, so they have the capacity to cope with societal changes.
