Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says rural school bus system to be rolled out fully in 3 years

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has stated that  it will take up to 4 hundred buses and approximately three years, to fully roll out a national rural school bus system, designed to serve 8 hundred and 50 rural schools.

The first phase of the programme, set to begin this September, involves the deployment of 100 buses to service about 258 schools and over 3 hundred thousand students in rural areas.

Speaking Thursday at the arrival of 63 new Compressed Natural Gas buses for the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Mr Vaz expressed confidence in completing the programme within three years.  

The Minster also reiterated that  the fare is a  flat rate of $50 per trip, using a cashless system, similar to the subsidized fare model used in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).
