Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the cost of damage to roads caused by Tropical Storm Ian is 889 million dollars.

Flood rains from Tropical Storm Ian affected the island in September causing damage to several roadways.

Mr. Holness made the disclosure while speaking in parliament yesterday (November 1).

He said of that amount, the cost to reopen and improve the roadways is 359 million dollars, while permanent work such as: retaining walls, accounted for the remaining sum.

Prime Minister Holness noted that the country’s fiscal situation will not allow for all the required works to be implemented immediately.

As such, he reiterated that focus has to be placed on the clearing of blocked roads, cleaning of critical drains which are now heavily silted , patching of main thoroughfares and the construction of new structures.
