Two Jamaican Referees….Daneon Parchment and Odette Hamilton, have been selected to officiate at the upcoming Olympic Football tournament at Paris 2024.
The appointments were confirmed by the FIFA Referees Committee which released a list of 89 match officials….including 21 referees, 42 assistant referees, 20 video match officials and six support referees.
Parchment serve as one of 20 video match officials having also served in that role during the recent Concacaf Nations League final between the United States and Mexico.
Hamilton, meanwhile is one of 6 support referees.
The 89 match officials will be supported by goal-line technology and the VAR system, including semiautomated offside technology.
Their preparations will be regularly and closely monitored before and during the Olympics by a team of FIFA technical trainers, including referees and VAR instructors, as well as match analysts, fitness coaches, physiotherapists and sports scientists.
In the meantime, the women’s tournament, which Jamaica’s Reggae Girls missed out on by virtue of losing to defending champions Canada in an Olympic play-in last september……will commence on July 25 and conclude with the gold medal match at the Parc Des Princes in Paris on August 10.
The men’s competition will begin on July 24, while the gold medal match will take place on August 9, also at the Parc Des Princes.
