Back-to-back World Under 20 one hundred meter champion Tina Clayton has been named international under 20 female athlete of the year by top track and field publication…….Athletics Weekly.
It comes after a spectacular season where she ran a new championship record 10.95 seconds on route to winning gold at the world under 20 championships in Cali, Colombia where she was also part of Jamaica’s winning 4×100 metre relay team.
Clayton, who earlier this year announced her decision to join the Stephen Francis-led MVP track club, also emerged victorious in the women’s 100 meters at the Carifta games in Kingston where she lined up alongside sister Tia, Serena Cole and Brianna Liston to win gold in the women’s 4×100 metre event in a blistering 42.58 seconds.
The men’s equivalent meanwhile was won by Erriyon Knighton of the United States.
Other individual award winners include American Sydney Mclaughlin and Mundo Duplantis of Sweden who were named the international female and male athletes of the year.
