Opposition Leader says effectiveness of SOEs is being diluted by overuse

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has again expressed the People’s National Party (PNP) disapproval of the States of Emergency (SOEs), noting that their effectiveness is being diluted by overuse.

Mr. Golding’s opposition to the enhanced security measure came as he contributed to the debate on the extension of the seven Zones of Special Operations (ZOSOs) in effect across the island.

He noted that while the PNP continues to support the ZOSOs, it remains opposed to the SOEs and their frequent implementation.

The latest SOEs were declared last Friday.

They cover St. James, Hanover, Westmoreland, St. Catherine, Clarendon and the St. Andrew South Police Division.
