Mass lawsuit expands as more Cooper’s Pen men file claim against Government

Written bySugar Ray Thomas

The number of men who are claiming that they were arrested by the police on the morning of the demolition of houses in Cooper’s Pen, Trelawny, has increased by 10.

The individuals have all shown interest in filing a lawsuit against the state for false imprisonment and breaches of their constitutional rights.

The update was provided to IRIE FM News by attorney Donnovan Collins this morning.

His law firm initially began the process to file the lawsuit for 22 men who said they were also detained on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Collins said the development has resulted in his law firm taking additional instructions so that the filing of the suit can move forward.

He expressed hope that the matter will be filed in the Supreme Court later today, or no later than Monday.
