Motorists are being advised that the main road from May Pen to Sour Sop Top in Clarendon will be closed intermittently for one month, starting this weekend.
The National Works Agency (NWA) says the closures will facilitate road rehabilitation under the SPARK programme.
NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw says the multi-million-dollar project will upgrade 3.5 kilometres of road linking May Pen to northern Clarendon.
The work will be done in phases to minimise traffic disruption.
Phase One targets a 210-metre section of Chapelton Road, between Love Lane and Penguin Key.
Motorists will be required to use alternative routes via Penguin Key, Manchester Avenue, Chapelton Road and Love Lane, depending on their direction of travel.
The rehabilitation includes pavement repairs, improved drainage, sidewalks, kerbs, road markings and new signs.
Concrete barriers have also been installed to restrict unauthorised access to the work zone.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, follow detour signs and drive with caution.
