Fire damages barrack at JDF Up Park Camp again
Fire of unknown origin damaged a barrack building in Up Park Camp in Kingston earlier this afternoon.
This is the second fire at the camp in as many months.
The Jamaica Defence Force said the fire occurred at about 2:30 p.m. with the JDF fire unit as well as the Jamaica Fire Brigade responding.
The teams worked collaboratively to contain the blaze and the fire was successfully extinguished by 3:30 p.m.
Cooling down operations are ongoing.
A formal investigation will commence as soon as the affected area has been declared safe for entry by the relevant authorities.
The JDF said it understands the public’s concern, especially as this is the second incident in recent months.
It assured that diligent management systems and safety protocols are maintained across all facilities.
Today’s fire follows another in June which also damaged a barrack building.
The cause of that fire has not been disclosed.
