PNP and JLP saddened by passing of former Cabinet Minister Dean Peart
The People’s National Party, PNP is mourning the passing of former Member of Parliament, for North West Manchester, and former Mandeville Mayor Dean Peart.
He died this morning.
He was 77.
Mr. Peart was also a former cabinet minister.
He served as Minister of State or Minister with Responsibility for several portfolios, including Local Government, Environment and Lands, and Works.
He also served as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Sports.
The PNP said Mr. Peart was a proud son of Manchester and the party.
In a statement today, the PNP said Peart won the North West Manchester seat five consecutive times, serving his constituents for 22 years with unmatched dedication.
He was also lauded for building 13 community centres and numerous basic schools across the constituency, championing education for young people.
The PNP said Peart carried forward the legacy of his father, Ernest and served alongside his brother, former Speaker of the House Michael, in one of Jamaica’s great political families.
The party extended deepest condolences to Dean Peart’s family, and the people of North West Manchester.
And, the Jamaica Labour Party says, it regrets the passing of Mr. Peart.
Deputy Leader of the JLP, Desmond McKenzie, hailed Mr. Peart as a gentleman, who was never afraid of speaking his mind.
For his part, JLP General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang lauded Mr. Peart as a politician of the highest calibre who had respect for standards of decency, decorum and integrity.
Speaking on Dr. Chang’s behalf, JLP Communication Taskforce Chairman, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, noted that Mr. Peart was committed to Jamaica’s development.
