KSAMC says controversial billboard removed from Rockfort area; urges advertisers to be mindful of material shared in public spaces
The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) says that while it does not regulate creative content, it is urging businesses and advertisers to be mindful of the material displayed in public spaces.
This, after a controversial billboard was removed in Rockfort, St. Andrew, following widespread public disapproval.
Citizens have made several videos that have gone viral on social media to raise concern about the billboard, which they describe as “lewd” and “offensive”.
In a video statement yesterday, KSAMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert Hill, noted that the sign was brought to the Corporation’s attention on Thursday, and upon review, a 24-hour notice was issued to the advertiser for its removal.
He said the sign was removed the next day.
The KSAMC is urging advertisers to exercise good judgement and consideration for the wider public.
It also noted that public spaces are shared, and advertising should reflect a level of respect for the diverse audiences that interact with the city each day.
