Veteran artiste manager Claude ‘Big Stone’ Sinclair dies
The Jamaican music fraternity is in mourning following the passing of artiste manager, trumpeter, and philanthropist Claude “Big Stone” Sinclair, who died earlier today at the Kingston Public Hospital.
Sinclair’s caregiver, Rose Marie Bailey, confirmed his death during an interview with Music News this morning. According to Bailey, Sinclair who had been ailing for some time and was readmitted to hospital last Tuesday after his condition worsened.
Widely respected for his invaluable contributions to Jamaica’s cultural landscape, Sinclair was a devoted Garveyite and a passionate advocate for the legacy of Jamaica’s first national hero. He played an instrumental role in organizing the 2012 visit to Jamaica of Garvey’s son, Dr. Julius Garvey.
Sinclair’s impact extended beyond cultural advocacy. A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, he later became a concert promoter and a staunch supporter of Jamaican artistes, consistently championing their welfare and development.
He is perhaps best remembered for his pivotal role in organizing a 2019 benefit concert for reggae singer Junior Byles, who had fallen on hard times and was in urgent need of medical and financial assistance.
Sinclair’s efforts brought much-needed attention and support to the ailing entertainer.
Big Stone was 67. He is survived by wife Donnalee and children.
