Silver lining for Jamaica – Day 1 World Indoor Championships
Jamaica closed day one of the 2026 World Indoor Championships in Poland with two silver medals for 4th place overall on the medal table.
The number two ranked in the world Jordan Scott notched the first medal while Kishane Thompson made it two shortly after.
Thompson was once again in a blanket finish in the men’s 60 metres final where he produced his fastest time ever 6.45 seconds the same time as 3rd place Trayvon Brommell but they were separated by one-thousandths of a second.
They finished behind the American Jordan Anthony who won the gold medal in a world leading time of 6.41 seconds.
Thompson adds to his Oylmpic 100 metres silver and World Championship silver medals.
Bryan Levell suffered some discomfort and pulled up early to cross the line in 7th in 7.69 seconds.
Scott became the first Jamaican to produce a podium finish in the men’s triple jump when he secured the silver medal with a season best effort of 17.33 metres.

Andy Hernández of Italy captured the gold medal with a world leading 17.47 metres.
Earlier Raheem Hayles missed out on a place in the men’s 400 metres final as he placed 3rd in his semi final in 46.87 seconds and failed to advance.
In the women’s 800 meters in the opening session this morning, Commonwealth games silver medallist Natoya Goule Toppin was second in heat two, clocking 2 minutes 01.32 seconds to make progress to the semi-final.
Kelly ann Beckford failed to make progress as she crossed the line fourth in 2 minutes 04.09 seconds.
On the men’s side, National record holder Navasky Anderson secured his place in the semi-final after placing 3rd in his heat in 1 minute-46.34 seconds.
Many times National champion Lamara Distin finished out of the medals 10th in the women’s high jump final with a mark of 1.85 metres, the gold won by Yoroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine 2.01 metres.
Saturday’ second day will start for Jamaica when Demario Prince and Jerome Campbell compete in the first round of the men’s 60 metre hurdles at 4.20 am Jamaica time.
