More than 35,000 JPS customers in the worst affected parishes have had electricity restored
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has revealed that 35,672 JPS customers in the worst affected parishes have had electricity restored following hurricane Melissa.
The areas are: Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Hanover, St. James and Trelawny.
In a post on his Instagram page, the minister said that a month ago, over 102,000 JPS customers in the worst affected parishes were still without electricity, with a June 2026 date set before many of the affected areas would be restored.
He said had it not been for the government’s intervention, the initial deadline would remain.
Mr. Vaz further stated that accelerated work continues throughout the holidays.
He also welcomed, the first of two barges loaded with equipment to further enable the added 300 contracted JPS linesmen.
The minister stated that the vessel contains 104 specialized vehicles, including Bucket trucks, Diggers and Excavators.
