Labour Ministry intervenes in dispute between Gleaner Company and production department workers
The Labour Ministry has intervened in a dispute between the Gleaner Company and production department workers, following reports that the media entity is moving ahead with a redundancy exercise, without having discussions with the trade union.
The workers are represented by the Bustamamte Industrial Trade Union (BITU).
BITU Vice President Alden Brown said workers, including the chief union delegate, were given letters about the redundancy, but the process goes against industrial relations practices.
He said the Gleaner Company has not notified the union.
Mr. Brown said the union wrote to the ministry seeking its intervention, and a meeting has been set for next Wednesday December 10.
