PM Holness says Jamaica will soon receive payments from CCRIF, Catastrophe Bond following impacts of Hurricane Melissa
Prime Minster Dr. Andrew Holness says the country will soon receive payments from the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) and the Catastrophe Bond.
The financial coverage instruments provide rapid financial liquidity to governments after a major natural disaster, such as a hurricane or earthquake.
Jamaica qualified to receive these payouts after the island was hit by a Category 5 hurricane last Tuesday.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that preliminary reports indicate that damage due to Melissa amounted to around 6 to 7 billion U.S. dollars.
According to Dr. holness, while the country has not yet received the CCRIF or Catastrophe Bond payments, they are expected soon.
Holness was speaking in parliament yesterday.
