Minister of Works says eight sawmen to travel to Trelawny today to help restore access to marooned communities

Minister of Works Robert Morgan says eight sawmen will be travelling to Trelawny today to help restore access to some of the marooned communities.

Several communities across the island have been cut off due to damage caused by Hurricane Melissa last week.

Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Mr. Morgan said one of the main issues being faced in the post-hurricane recovery efforts is the absence of skilled labour.

He said while heavy machinery is required to clear some roadways, smaller equipment like chainsaws is essential.

Mr. Morgan said men who can operate these are needed.

He said the forestry department has identified eight men who will travel to the marooned Trelawny communities to help restore access.
