Hurricane Melissa forces postponement of Match Day 10 in Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League

Match Day 10 in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League has been postponed due to the impending impact of Hurricane Melissa, which strengthened from a tropical storm to a Category One hurricane on Saturday.

In a statement, league organizers said the decision was made “in the interest of safety,” noting that “the safety of our players, officials, and fans remains our top priority.” The league added that new match dates will be announced once it is safe to resume play.

The round was set to feature several key fixtures, including a clash between leaders Montego Bay United and defending champions Cavalier. Second-place Portmore United were scheduled to face Arnett Gardens, while Mount Pleasant were down to meet Dunbeholden.

Other matches on the card included Treasure Beach versus Chapelton Maroons, Tivoli Gardens against Waterhouse, Molynes United taking on Racing United, and Spanish Town Police traveling to Harbour View.

Montego Bay United currently lead the standings on 22 points, with Portmore United four points behind on 18 and Racing United third on 15.

The postponement marks the first weather-related disruption of the current JPL season as the island braces for the effects of Hurricane Melissa.
