Bangladesh thrash West Indies to seal ODI series 2-1
The West Indies slumped to an embarrassing 179-run defeat to Bangladesh in the third and final One Day International at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, handing the hosts a 2-1 series victory.
Chasing 297 for victory, the Caribbean side crumbled to 117 all out in just 30.1 overs, with Akeal Hosein’s quick-fire 27 from 15 balls providing the only spark in an otherwise dismal batting effort. Brandon King (18), Alick Athanaze (15), Keacy Carty (15), Justin Greaves (15), and Sherfane Rutherford (12) were the only other batters to reach double figures.
Bangladesh’s spinners proved too much for the visitors, with Nasum Ahmed leading the way with 3 for 11, supported by Rishad Hossain who took 3 for 54. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam also chipped in with two wickets apiece to complete a dominant bowling performance.
Earlier, Bangladesh set up the win with a commanding total of 296 for 8 after opting to bat first. The foundation came from a century opening partnership of 176 between Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar. Hassan smashed 80 off 73 balls with six fours and as many sixes, while Sarkar top-scored with 91 from 86 deliveries, including seven fours and four sixes.
Najmul Hossain Shanto added 44 to keep the scoreboard moving as Bangladesh pressed on in the latter stages of their innings.
For the West Indies, Akeal Hosein continued his fine all-round form, claiming 4 for 41, while Alick Athanaze took 2 for 37. Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase picked up one wicket each.
With the ODI series now complete, both teams will shift their focus to the three-match T20 International series which bowls off on October 27 in Chattogram.
