Police probe death of female student at UWI Mona campus today

The police are investigating the death of a female student at the University of the West Indies, UWI Mona Campus in St. Andrew today.

Dead is 20-year-old Victoria Hanley of Manchester.

Hanley was found dead in her room at the George Alleyne Hall early this morning.

Earlier, lawmen said it was believed that Hanley committed suicide.

However, Head of Police Area 4, Assistant Commissioner of Police Michael Phipps said the probe is in the early stages and at this time, it is being treated as a death investigation.

He said CCTV footage will also be reviewed and an early post-mortem is being conducted to determine the cause of Ms. Hanley’s death.

Meantime, UWI Mona Deputy Principal Dr. Tomlin Paul said the school community is saddened by the tragedy.

While, Guild President, Roshaun Wynter said grief counselling support is available for affected students.
