Health minister assures that Jamaica remains malaria free
The health ministry has sought to assure that citizens need not have any fear about malaria.
This as the risk threshold has not been reached.
Portfolio minister Dr. Christopher Tufton gave the assurance while responding to questions from the opposition in parliament today.
Concern had been raised about exposure to malaria in the wake of reports that Haitians who recently entered the country illegally tested positive for the disease.
Dr. Tufton pointed out that health officials in the areas where the Haitians were found, activated the relevant response protocols.
Jamaica has been malaria free for years, with the official eradication designation being re-instated in 2012.
