Sagicor Bank workers upset over wage negotiations; management issued 72-hour strike notice
Workers attached to the Sagicor Bank have issued a 72-hour strike notice, stemming from their dissatisfaction over wage and fringe benefits negotiations.
The Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) which represents the workers, served the notice to the Ministry of Labour yesterday.
BITU’s Vice President, Rudolph Thomas told Irie FM News that the union served claims for improved wages and benefits in October 2024.
He added that a clarification meeting was convened on January 31 this year, but no fair offer has been made by Sagicor since then.
Mr. Thomas noted that while the employer has publicly celebrated strong financial performance and achievements over the past year, it has failed to extend a fair and reasonable wage offer to the very employees responsible for the Bank’s success.
He said the workers are disgruntled.
The Union is calling on the Ministry to intervene to prevent disruptions to normal operations.
The BITU Vice President added that for the second consecutive day, scores of employees at Sagicor Bank Branches across the island have turned up to work dressed in black, signaling their dissatisfaction with the negotiations.
