Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has defended his cabinet, pointing out that renewal is a process.

This in response to comments that the new Cabinet is comprised of mainly the same persons who held the same portfolios in the previous administration.

At the swearing in ceremony for the Cabinet ministers on Wednesday, Dr. Holness had noted that this third term is about succession and transition planning, because some of the current Cabinet ministers indicated their intention to exit politics soon.

This prompted many to question, why there aren’t many new appointees.

The Prime Minister responded to those concerns today, during the swearing in ceremony for the state ministers.

Many of the 13 state ministers appointed today are new to the role.

Dr. Holness noted that the Cabinet ministers have years of experience, and a wealth of knowledge, which they will pass on to the next generation of leaders.

The Prime Minister cited programmes, projects and reform initiatives which are at critical stages, and require stability to reach completion.

He said the portfolio holders have committed to ensuring an orderly transition.
