21 Government and Opposition Senators were sworn in to office at Gordon House today.
This as the 2025 parliamentary term commences, following the September 3 general election.
There are some new faces among the 13 Government and 8 Opposition Senators.
The new Government appointees are senators Keith Duncan, Rose Marie Bennett-Cooper and Christian Tavares-Finson.
Senators Kisha Gaye Anderson, Allan Bernard, Dr. Maziki Thame, Ramon Small-Ferguson and Cleveland Tomlinson are the fresh faces for the Opposition.
The Government’s Tom Tavares-Finson was returned as Senate President, with Charles Sinclair serving as his deputy.
After being sworn in, Mr. Tavares-Finson noted the importance of the senate, while lauding the strides made in previous sessions.
He pointed to contributions to the Senate regarding crime bills, which paved the way for a decline in the country’s murder tally.
