Tajay Gayle starred the show for Jamaica in leaps of silver at the World Athletics Championships
Tajay Gayle starred the show for Jamaica today with his third World Championship medal to take Jamaica to an overall six medals after 5 days of action at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo , Japan.
This while Jamaica lines up for three more medal events on Thusrday’s sixth day of the Championship.
The 2019 World Champion who won bronze in budapest in 2023 completed the medal sweep with silver yesterday for an overall gold, silver and bronze in the event with his effort of 8.34 metres.
This lifts Jamaica to 5th on the medal chart with an overall one gold, four silver and one bronze.
Jordan Scott duly qualified for the final of the Men’s Triple Jump, with a best effort of 17.19 metres
Bryan Level 19.84 seconds was in cruise control, to qualify for the Men’s 200 metres semi-final along with Christopher Taylor 20.26 seconds and Adrian Kerr 20.13 seconds.
Shericka Jackson 22.23 seconds the defending champion and Ashanti Moore made progress in the Women’s event while Gabrielle Mathews fell by the wayside.
Jackson won her heat in 22.23 seconds and Moore posted 22.57 for second in her heat.
Shiann Salmon with a season best 54.03 seconds is the lone Jamaican through to the Women’s 400 metre hurdles final.
Andrennette Knight failed to make progress after posting 54.35 to finish 5th in her semi-final.
Meanwhile, there will be no Jamaican in the Men’s 400 metre hurdles final.
This despite Malik James – King producing a season best 48.01 seconds but was 5th in the first semi-final.
Roshawn Clarke also missed out on a place in the final wih his 4th place finish where he clocked 48.37 seconds
