JAAA names strong squad for NACAC Senior Championships in Bahamas
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has announced a formidable team for the upcoming NACAC Senior Athletic Championships, set to take place in Freeport, Bahamas, from Friday to Sunday.
The three-day meet will serve as a critical opportunity for several athletes to meet the qualifying standards for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
In the sprints, Jonielle Smith and Jodian Williams will represent Jamaica in the women’s 100 metres, while Ryiem Ford and Shakur Williams will contest the men’s event. Over 200 metres, Roneisha McGregor and Gabrielle Matthews will take on the women’s field, with Christopher Taylor and Kadrian Goldson lining up in the men’s race.
The 400 metres will feature national record holder Rusheen McDonald alongside Delano Kennedy in the men’s event, while Dejanae Oakley and Nickiesha Pryce will represent the women.
The squad also boasts high-profile names including Olympic silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts, as well as Nyoka Clunis, Janieve Russell, Amoi Brown, Yanique Thompson, Malique James-King, and Shawn D Thompson.
Technical leader Maurice Wilson will guide the contingent, supported by coaches Paul Francis, Gregory Little, Marlon Gayle, and Michael McIntosh.
The team is scheduled to depart Jamaica on Wednesday and will return next Monday.
