West Indies name squad for ODI Series against Pakistan

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-member squad for the CG United One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, which bowls off on August 8 at the iconic Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. The three-match series, set for August 8, 10, and 12, will mark the final home assignment for the West Indies this year and is seen as a pivotal step in the team’s preparation for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Hunting a fourth consecutive ODI series win on home soil, the squad features a strong core of players who delivered impressive results in home victories against England and Bangladesh late last year, as well as during this year’s tour of the United Kingdom.

Captain Shai Hope will once again lead the charge, with support from emerging talents and experienced campaigners. The squad includes Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd, who makes his return after missing recent series against Ireland and England.

Head Coach Daren Sammy expressed his enthusiasm about the series, underscoring its importance in the broader context of West Indies’ World Cup ambitions.

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy said. “While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success.”

Sammy also pointed to the significance of facing higher-ranked opponents. “The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup.”

The tour serves as a litmus test for the Caribbean side, who will be eager to measure their progress and maintain their upward trajectory in the ODI format. With a blend of youth and experience, CWI will look to use this series not only to secure vital victories but also to further solidify their squad composition heading into the World Cup cycle.
