Sunshine Girl star Latanya Wilson has been voted fan MVP for Round 13 in the Suncorp Super Netball League, following a dazzling defensive display for the two-time defending champions, the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Wilson was simply unstoppable in her side’s crucial 60-49 victory over the Melbourne Mavericks, whose lineup featured her fellow Jamaican international, Shimona Jok. Playing in the goal-keeper position, Wilson delivered a record-equalling performance, finishing the match with 9 intercepts, 9 deflections, 12 gains, and 2 rebounds, amassing a game-high 122 Nissan Net Points.

Her defensive heroics proved pivotal for the Thunderbirds, who were desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Wilson’s performance was perfectly complemented by fellow Sunshine Girl Romelda Aiken-George, who dominated in attack with a game-high 49 goals, along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Together, the Jamaican duo spearheaded the Thunderbirds to a vital victory, propelling the reigning champions into the coveted 4th and final playoff spot on goal percentage, edging out the Sunshine Coast Lightning, with both teams locked on 28 points.

Now, all eyes turn to the highly anticipated regular season finale on July 12 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, where Wilson and Aiken-George will again lead the charge against the Lightning. The winner of that clash will secure a spot in the Minor Semifinal.
