Tessanne Chin leads charge to support pioneering Arts mentor Cathy Levy
Recording artiste Tessanne Chin is calling on the public to support a woman she credits as being one of the most influential figures in her life and career: 1983 Miss Jamaica World, Cathy Levy.
In a heartfelt post on social media, The Voice Season 5 winner described Levy as a cornerstone of Jamaica’s performing arts community and a guiding force for generations of young talent.
According to a GoFundMe set up to obtain well needed funds Levy suffered a devastating fall that left her with a fractured coccyx and damage to her lower spinal vertebrae. It stated that she is currently hospitalized in severe pain and now requires major surgery followed by extensive physical therapy.
The crowdfunding noted that a clerical error resulted in the cancellation of her medical insurance, leaving her with no coverage at a time when she needs it most.
Up to news time the GoFundMe has raised over USD $20,000, but there’s still a long way to go with the target being $75,000.
Levy, founder of the iconic Little People and Teen Players Club, has been a stalwart of youth arts education in Jamaica for decades, nurturing talents who have gone on to become household names across the island and beyond. Through her work, she has championed artistic expression among children and teens, all while advocating for animal welfare.
