Nicholas Pooran announces shocking retirement from international cricket
In a stunning announcement on Monday, Cricket West Indies revealed that explosive Trinidadian batsman Nicholas Pooran has decided to retire from international cricket, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career.
Pooran officially informed team leadership of his decision, bringing an end to his tenure with the West Indies. Cricket West Indies praised his contributions, highlighting how his performances and influence have left a lasting impact on Caribbean cricket.
Pooran departs as the most capped West Indian in T20 Internationals, having represented the region in 106 matches and amassed a record 2,275 runs, making him the leading T20I run-scorer for the West Indies.
His last international appearances came in December 2024 during the T20 series against Bangladesh. He has not featured in One Day Internationals since July 2023 and never played Test cricket.
The decision by Pooran will allow him to focus on his career in lucrative franchise leagues. He had already sat out the ongoing T20 series against England to rest after his stint with the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Additionally, he holds contracts with Major League Cricket (MLC) and The Hundred, where he is expected to play this summer.
