Olympic 100 metres silver medalist Kishane Thompson to set Racers Gand Prix on fire
Olympic 100 metres silver medalist Kishane Thompson, Olympic long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock along with the sizzling twin sisters Tia and Tina Clayton will fly the Jamaican colours at the eagerly anticipated 2025 Racers Grand Prix tonight at the National Stadium.
Thompson who has already posted a season best 9.99 seconds in his first Grand Prix outing on May 3, enters the feature men’s 100 metres event as favourite, and will face World Championship finalist Oblique Seville and the South African speedster Bayanda Walaza.
In the women’s 100 meters, Tia Clayton with a season best 9.92 second lead the cast that will feature her sister Tina, and National junior record holder Alana Reid, along with Jacious Sears of the US who holds a personal best of 10.77 seconds.
The Women’s 100metres hurdles will see Kerrica Hill, the two-time World Under 20 Champion, making her debut as a senior at this meet.
The men’s 110metres hurdles, meanwhile, sees 2022 World Championship silver medallist Trey Cunningham of the USA leading the field and will be challenged by the Jamaican duo of Orlando Bennett and Tyler Mason .
In the meantime, all eyes will be on the fast improving Christopher Taylor in the men’s 200 metres, that also features Bryan Levell and Javaughn Powell, while the 2022 and 2023- 200 meters World Champion Shericka Jackson will start as favourte in the women’s 200 meters that also includes Antonique Strachan of the Bahamas and Candice Hill of the USA.
2023 world champion Antonio watson is not showing on the start list of the men’s 400 metres which will feature national record holder Rusheend Mcdonald, along with Demish Gaye , Zandrion Barnes and the American Chris Bailey.
Two times World Championship mile relay silver medalist Candice Mcleod and compatriot Stacy Ann Williams will take the fight to Quanera Hayes of the USA and Sada Williams of Barbados in the Women’s 400 meters.
National Junior record holder Roshawn Clarke and the National Champion Malik James King will face off in the men’s 400 meters hurdles.
The meet gets underway at 7:15 pm with the Women’s Triple Jump Final.
