Olympic silver medalist Shanieka Ricketts extends unbeaten run with Triple Jump victory in Rome
Olympic silver medalist Shanieka Ricketts continued her unbeaten streak in the 2025 season, delivering a season-best performance to claim first place in the women’s triple jump at the Wanda Diamond League’s fifth event in Rome.
Ricketts soared to a distance of 14.64 metres, surpassing her previous season best of 14.54 metres and securing a comfortable victory ahead of Cuba’s Leyanis Perez Hernandez, who finished second with 14.46 metres. Olympic champion Thea Lafond of Dominica rounded out the podium in third place with a jump of 14.30 metres.
The strong showing for Jamaica didn’t stop there. Andrenette Knight also impressed by winning the women’s 400 metre hurdles with a season-best time of 53.67 seconds. Her compatriot Rushell Clayton followed closely in third place, clocking her own season-best of 54.31 seconds. Shiann Salmon, another Jamaican competitor in the race, finished seventh with a time of 55.47 seconds.
In the men’s 110 metre hurdles, Orlando Bennett posted a season-best 13.29 seconds to place fourth, while Omar McLeod was eighth in 13.58 seconds. The race was won by Switzerland’s Jason Joseph in 13.14 seconds.
Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford also made a mark in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.26 metres, earning him second place. Raymond Richards finished 11th with 2.12 metres.
Field events featured further Jamaican success as Rajindra Campbell secured third place in the men’s shot put, throwing 21.64 metres—just behind New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, who achieved a season-best 21.89 metres. Carey McLeod, Jamaica’s sole competitor in the men’s long jump, finished eighth with a best jump of 8.01 metres. Australia’s Liam Adcock took the win in that event with a personal best of 8.34 metres.
