Seven Jamaicans among nominees for 8th CWI/WIPA Awards Gala

Former West Indies white-ball captain Rovman Powell and former West Indies women’s team captain Stafanie Taylor headline a strong Jamaican presence among the nominees for the 8th annual CWI/WIPA Awards Gala. The event celebrates outstanding performances in West Indies cricket over the past year and will take place on June 22 at the Wyndham Grand Barbados.

This year’s gala carries special significance as it also honors the 50th anniversary of one of West Indies cricket’s most iconic moments — the 1975 ICC Cricket World Cup victory under the legendary leadership of Sir Clive Lloyd.

Alongside Powell and Taylor, five other Jamaicans have been nominated: Brandon King, Chinelle Henry, Marquino Mindley, Chadean Nation, and Rashada Williams.

  • Rovman Powell and Brandon King are both nominated for the coveted T20 Player of the Year award, competing with players like Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, and Nicholas Pooran.
  • Stafanie Taylor and Chinelle Henry are in the running for Women’s Day International Player of the Year, alongside Afy Fletcher, Zaida James, and Hayley Matthews. Henry has also been nominated for T20 Player of the Year.
  • Marquino Mindley is nominated for Super50 Cup Player of the Year, facing competition from Leniko Boucher, Rahkeem Cornwall, Justin Greaves, and Amir Jangoo.
  • Chadean Nation vies for Women’s Super50 Cup Player of the Year, with fellow nominees Shemaine Campbelle, Kycia Knight, Nyia Latchman, and Ashmini Munisar.
  • Rashada Williams is nominated for Women’s T20 Blaze Player of the Year, competing against Erin Deane, Shabika Gajnabi, Mandy Mangru, and Plaffiana Millington.

In addition to these categories, the CWI/WIPA Awards will also reveal nominees for Test Player of the Year, One Day International Player of the Year, West Indies Championship Player of the Year, Regional Championships Player of the Year, and Regional Men’s T20 Player of the Year.
