JFF General Secretary Dennis Chung to step down this Saturday

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has confirmed that General Secretary Dennis Chung will officially demit office on Saturday, May 31, bringing to a close a pivotal chapter in the organization’s recent history.

The announcement follows widespread speculation, which was finally confirmed by Chung himself during a Monday appearance on Irie FM’s sports talk show What’s The Score. During the broadcast, he revealed that he would not be renewing his contract when it expires in November.

In an official press release, the JFF stated,
“This follows discussions that would have taken place internally, and which there was speculation in the press about this matter. This, however, was not confirmed as there were some issues that needed to be addressed prior.”

Chung joined the JFF in November 2022, tasked by President Michael Ricketts with the critical responsibility of addressing the financial challenges the federation faced at that time. Ricketts was clear that ensuring the JFF’s financial stability was a top priority.

Under Chung’s stewardship, the federation has made remarkable strides. Notably, the JFF announced last week that it recorded a surplus of $137 million Jamaican dollars for the opening quarter of 2025 — a clear testament to the progress made.

Among Chung’s key achievements during his tenure:

  • Removal from FIFA’s restrictive funding measures
  • Securing a Tax Compliance Certificate in 2023, paying off all outstanding tax principals, and staying current
  • Achieving a $66 million penalty and interest write-off under the 2025 Tax Amnesty program
  • Attaining a clean audit opinion on the 2024 financial statements and eliminating a Going Concern Qualification for the first time in over 20 years
  • Significant improvements to internal processes and policies
  • Posting a positive equity position in March 2025, also a first in more than two decades

President Michael Ricketts praised Chung’s leadership, saying,
“I am happy that Dennis has achieved the goals of financial improvement in the JFF. The objective has been to get our financial house in order and then start to focus on the development of football in Jamaica, as it was always going to be difficult to have effective developmental programmes with the financial challenges we faced in 2022. I am sure that we will always be able to call on Dennis if we need his advice and I certainly wish him all the best in the future.”

Meanwhile, news emerged on Wednesday that Dennis Chung will be joining the Financial Investigations Division (FID) as Chief Technical Director, effective Monday, June 2.
