Golding vows to secure beach access if elected
Opposition Leader Mark Golding says should his party form the next government, he will ensure that citizens have access to the island’s beaches.
According to the Opposition Leader, though Jamaica is recognized for its beautiful beaches, citizens do not have access to many of them.
Mr. Golding says his administration will use legislation, if necessary, to improve access rights for the citizens.
He said the interest of the people must always come first.
The issue of beach access has been a major concern in recent times, with local lobby groups including the Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement (JABBEM), calling for the government to address the issue of access to beaches.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the Beach Access and Management Policy is almost complete.
