Dwayne “Busy” Atkinson returns as Reggae Boyz prepare for the 2025 Unity Cup
The Reggae Boyz squad has been announced for the Afro-Caribbean Invitational Tournament — the Unity Cup — starting May 27. Among those in the fold is the Concacaf Caribbean Club Championships MVP, Dwayne “Busy” Atkinson, who has been recalled to the national squad after an impressive season.
Joining Atkinson in the squad is a blend of local talent and international talent, including first-time invitee Rumarn Burrell of English League One club Burton Albion FC. The team also welcomes back Javon East, currently with Israeli Premier League’s Hapoel Haifa, and Brandon Cover of Premier League side Leicester City.
The full squad boasts a balanced mix of experience and youth, featuring ten locally-based players, including three goalkeepers — Shaquan Davis, Benjamin Williams, and Tafari Chambers. Defenders such as Richard King, Mason Holgate, Dexter Lembikisa, Kyle Ming, Amari’i Bell, Greg Leigh, and Stephen Young will form a solid backline. In midfield, expect to see the likes of Isaac Hayden, Kasey Palmer, Brandon Cover, Jon Russell, and Daniel Green. Up front, alongside Atkinson and Burrell, forwards Renaldo Cephas, Warner Brown, Kaheim Dixon, and East will spearhead the attack.
Mount Pleasant captain Suelae McCalla is a late entry to the squad that will be completed with the addition of another player over the weekend, finalizing the line-up that will travel from Jamaica to England this Saturday.
The Reggae Boyz face stiff competition in the four-team tournament, which includes the Black Stars of Ghana, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, and the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago.
Jamaica’s campaign kicks off against Trinidad on May 27 at the Gtech Stadium in Brentford, with Nigeria and Ghana meeting the following day at the same venue. The tournament will culminate on May 31 with a dramatic double-header: the third-place playoff followed by the grand final to crown the 2025 Afro-Caribbean Champions.
