Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw clinches second consecutive Golden Boot despite injury setbacks

Prolific Reggae Girlz striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has won the Women’s Super League Golden Boot for the second consecutive year.

The 28-year-old, who plays for Manchester City, netted a joint-league best 12 goals in just 14 appearances—despite missing almost half of the season due to injury.

Shaw’s achievement is even more impressive considering she was sidelined for 14 matches overall and 8 in the WSL, including the final 6 to end the season. Manchester City in her absence ended in 4th place with 43 points, having finished second on goal difference the previous season.

Joining Shaw at the top of the Golden Boot standings was Arsenal striker Alessia Russo, who scored 12 goals in 34 appearances. Russo’s stellar performances also earned her the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award, with Shaw finishing in a close second place in the voting. Shaw’s runner-up finish placed her ahead of Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey and Chelsea defender Millie Bright, solidifying her status as one of the top players in the league.

In other notable news from the Women’s Super League, Chelsea, the club of Reggae Girlz goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, capped off a historic season with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool on the final day of the campaign. The win saw Chelsea finish the season unbeaten, becoming the first team in WSL history to complete a 22-game season without a loss. With 19 wins and 3 draws, Chelsea accumulated a record-breaking 60 points, marking their dominance in the league this year.
