Govt moves to implement stricter penalties for child murderers
The government is moving to introduce stricter penalties for children convicted of murder.
This is outlined in the offences against the person (amendment) bill, which seeks to address and increase penalties for the offence of murder.
Speaking in the house of representatives yesterday, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck stated that the sentence for capital murder, even in the case of a child, should be life imprisonment.
Mr. Chuck stressed that the government prioritizes justice and that the punishment for murder must show that life is sacred and taking it unlawfully will bring serious consequences.
