Danielle Williams & Jordan Scott shine at 2025 Wanda Diamond League Meet in Xiamen, China

The 2025 Wanda Diamond League meet in Xiamen, China, saw an impressive display of Jamaican talent, with Danielle Williams and Jordan Scott leading the way with victories in their respective events.

Williams, the two-time world champion in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, ran 12.53 seconds to win the event at the series opening meet. The seasoned hurdler’s performance was enough to fend off a strong challenge from the USA’s Grace Stark, who finished just behind in 12.58 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the men’s field events, Jordan Scott made a significant mark by setting a new personal best in the Men’s Triple Jump. Scott soared to a winning jump of 17.27 meters, claiming the top spot ahead of China’s ZhuYaming 17.03 and American Scott Donald 16.85.

In the Men’s Long Jump, Wayne Pinnock, a World Championship silver medallist, had to settle for fifth place after a leap of 8.06 meters. China’s Zhang Mingkun 8.18m and Australia’s Liam Adcock 8.15m, USA’s Marquis Dendy 8.10m secured the top 3 places..

Meanwhile two-time world champion Shericka Jackson opened her Diamond League campaign with a solid performance in the Women’s 200m. Jackson crossed the finish line in 22.79 seconds, securing a second-place finish just behind American Anavia Battle. Battle set a season best and meeting record with her winning time of 22.41 seconds, while compatriot Jenna Prandini was third in a season best 22.87s.

In the Men’s 100m, Rohan Watson was outside the podium places with his time of 10.31 seconds placing him ninth in a race dominated by South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who clinched the victory with a time of 9.99 seconds to beat Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala who was second in 10.13s.

Lastly, in the Women’s 1000m, Natoya Goule-Toppin finished fifth with a time of 2:34.71 seconds. The race was dominated by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, the double Olympic and World Champion, who claimed the gold in a meeting record and world-leading time of 2 minutes 29.21 seconds.
