China Harbour Engineering Company working to address concerns raised by Jamaican workers at its construction site in Mammee Bay, St. Ann

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) says it is actively working to address concerns raised by Jamaican workers at its Mammee Bay construction site in St. Ann.

The assurance comes after workers at the site voiced frustration over what they described as unfair wages and poor treatment.

During a visit to the location earlier today workers told IRIE FM News that they are being paid just $400 per hour — amounting to roughly $3,600 per day, despite working from 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

They also shared that on Saturdays and Sundays, they often work double shifts without adequate compensation.

Meanwhile, Marketing Manager at CHEC, Samantha Curtis told IRIE FM News that following complaints made by workers on-site earlier this morning, a meeting was held with management to listen to their grievances.

She noted that CHEC is reviewing the work schedule and is open to negotiating better wages and improved working conditions.

Curtis said the company is aiming to have the matter resolved by Friday.
