Entertainer Cocoa Tea has died

Jamaica and the entertainment fraternity have been plunged into mourning following the passing of iconic singer Colvin “Cocoa Tea” Scott.

According to reports Cocoa Tea died early this morning Tuesday, March 11, at a hospital in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, following a cardiac arrest. The Holy Mount Zion Singer had been battling several health issues, including lymphoma and pneumonia.

With a career spanning over four decades Cocoa Tea rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like Rikers Island and Young Lover. His unique voice and style captivated audiences worldwide.

Cocoa Tea was also known for his activism and support for social causes as his music often carried messages of love, unity, and advocacy for social justice.

Throughout his career, Cocoa Tea worked with top reggae labels, including VP Records, Greensleeves Records, and Ras Records. In 2000, he founded his own label, Roaring Lion, further cementing his legacy as a pioneering force in reggae music.

The annual New Year’s Eve event, Dancehall Jam Jam, was the brainchild of Cocoa Tea, an event which he initiated in 2003.
