The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service says there is a provision in the 2025/2026 budget for wage increases for public servants; however this amount cannot be disclosed as yet.

Portfolio Minister Fayval Williams made the statement during today’s Standing Finance Committee meeting, in response to questions from Opposition Member Dr. Morais Guy.

In recent weeks, several public sector groups including the Jamaica Teacher’s Association and the Association of Government Medical Consultants have expressed frustration over outstanding retroactive payments.

Highlighting this issue, Dr. Guy pressed for a specific dollar figure regarding the allocation made in the 1.3 trillion dollar national budget for wage increases.

However, the Finance Minister stated that she was unable to provide this information at the time.

Meantime, Mrs.Williams stated that talks have begun with some trade unions.
