Jamaica’s suffers defeat against Guyana in CG United Regional Women’s Super 50

Defending champions Jamaica suffered their first defeat of the 2025 CG United Regional Women’s Super 50, going down by 8 wickets to Guyana in the second-round match at the St. Paul’s Sports Complex in St. Kitts.

After opening their campaign with a solid 51-run victory over Trinidad and Tobago on Monday, Jamaica was hoping to extend their winning streak. However, the result saw them fall short in a match where Guyana proved too strong.

Opting to bat take first strike, Jamaica’s batting line-up struggled in the absence of former captain Stafanie Taylor, who made 49 in her lone match back from injury. The Jamaicans were dismissed for 175 in 47.4 overs. Chedean Nation top-scored with 32, while Neisha-Ann Waisome contributed 29. Jodian Morgan (23) and Vanessa Watts (20) added useful runs, but it was not enough to post a competitive total. Guyana’s bowlers, led by Plaffiana Millington (3 for 16) and Shabika Gajnabi (2 for 27), were in fine form, restricting the Jamaicans throughout the innings.

In response, Guyana chased down the target of 176 with ease, reaching 178 for 2 in 47.1 overs. A brilliant second-wicket partnership between Mandy Mangru (60) and Realeanna Grimond (72*) guided them to victory. The pair put on a 109-run stand, and Guyana comfortably reached their target, securing their first win of the season.

Final Scores:

  • Jamaica: 175 (47.4 overs)
  • Guyana: 178/2 (47.1 overs)

Meanwhile, at Warner Park, Barbados Women remained the only unbeaten team after two rounds with a dominant 57-run victory over the Windward Islands. Siblings Kycia Knight (63) and Kyshona Knight (51*) both scored half-centuries to guide Barbados to 181 all out. In response, the Windwards were bowled out for just 125, with Naijanni Cumberbatch (3 for 20), Keila Elliott (2 for 14), and Aaliyah Alleyne (2 for 13) leading the charge with the ball.

Final Scores:

  • Barbados: 181 all out
  • Windward Islands: 125 all out

At the Conaree Sports Club, the Leeward Islands posted a total of 188 all out, with Reniece Boyce’s 76 from 84 balls the standout performance. However, Trinidad and Tobago successfully chased the target, making 190 for 6 to win by 4 wickets. Britney Cooper (76), Lee-Ann Kirby (41), and Anisa Mohammed (32) were the main contributors with the bat.

Final Scores:

  • Leeward Islands: 188 all out
  • Trinidad and Tobago: 190/6

As the competition heats up, the six participating teams return to action in Round 3 on February 28. Jamaica will face unbeaten Barbados at Conaree, Trinidad & Tobago will meet the Windward Islands at St. Paul’s, and Warner Park will host the clash between the Leeward Islands and Guyana.
