JPL football returns to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex

Football fans in West Kingston will once again experience the excitement of live Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) action at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

The venue, which has been inactive since the COVID-19 pandemic suspended the 2019-2020 season, has officially been approved for use by the Jamaica Football Federation’s Competition Department. Following the suspension, the Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) assumed management of the JPL, focusing on its commercialization and marketing. The league resumed in May 2021 with a shortened season but the venue, formerly Railway Oval, was not utilized during this period

The return of top flight football marks a major milestone for the community, as the West Kingston-based venue, named after former Jamaican Prime Minster and Tivoli Gardens FC president Edward Seaga, will host its first match in five years. The eagerly anticipated fixture on Match Day 25 features Tivoli Gardens against the visiting Chapelton Maroons, scheduled for Wednesday, February 12. Originally set to take place at Stadium East, the match has been moved to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex following the green light from the local governing body.

Tivoli Gardens, currently in eighth place with 27 points, will be looking to break a four-game winless streak while the Clarendon-based Chapelton, sitting in 11th position with 20 points, will aim to close the gap and push for a higher spot in the standings.

Meanwhile, in other fixtures, fourth-placed Portmore United, with 38 points, will host 10th-placed Dunbeholden, who have 22 points, at Ferdie Neita Park. Racing United, in seventh place with 28 points, will travel to Effortville Community Centre to take on bottom-placed Humble Lion. All three games are set to kick off at 3:00 PM.

The remaining four fixtures on Match Day 25 will be completed on Thursday.
