Jamaican netballer Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard suffered pregnancy loss, club announces
Sunshine Girls captain Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard has suffered a pregnancy loss. This was revealed through a statement by her Suncorp Super Netball League team, West Coast Fever.
In a statement released by the club, they expressed their sorrow and offered support to the star goal shooter and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
“It is with sadness and heartbreak that we inform the netball community that Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and her family have suffered the loss of their ‘Baby Fowler-Nembhard’,” the statement read. “Everyone at West Coast Fever is utterly devastated for Jhaniele, Ashani, and Drehannnah. We are wrapping our arms around them during this incredibly difficult time.”
The club assured that they would continue to provide unwavering support for the Jamaican international and her loved ones, both in the coming days and in the months ahead. “Our club will continue to support Jhaniele and her family through the days, weeks, and months ahead as they navigate this heartbreaking situation,” the statement continued. “West Coast Fever asks everyone to respect the privacy of Jhaniele and her family at this time.”
Fowler-Nembhard had announced in December that she was pregnant and would miss the 2025 Super Netball season, as well as the recent series between Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls and England Roses and South Africa SPAR Proteas. In her absence, West Coast Fever signed Malawi international Mwai Kumwenda as a temporary replacement for the 35-year-old star.
Over the past seven years, Fowler-Nembhard has had an extraordinary impact on the Perth-based West Coast Fever organization, where she is teammates with Jamaican compatriots Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Shanice Beckford. She has been a dominant force on the court, winning the league’s MVP award five consecutive times from 2018 to 2022 and leading the league in scoring every season during that stretch and guided the Fever to the Suncorp Super Netball League title in 2022.
