Jamaica Mixed 4x50m Medley Relay eliminated in heats at World Short Course Swimming Championship
There was some measure of success for Jamaica on day 2 of the 2024 World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary after the mixed 4x50m Medley Relay team finished third in their heat.
Competing in heat 1 the quartet of Leanna Wainwright, Sidrell Williams, Jessica Calberbank and Nathaniel Thomas clocked 1:50.17 seconds en-route to finishing behind Neutral Athletes A 1:39.07s and Kyrgyzstan 1:49.64s.
However their combined times saw the quartet finishing 33rd overall of the 39 participating countries,
thus failing to advance to the round of 16.
Wainwright. who got things underway, clocked 20.05 seconds in the backstroke split before handing off to Williams who produced a breaststroke leg of 30.69s.
This was followed by Calderbank’s 27.40s in the butterfly leg before Williams anchored with a time of 23.03s.
Earlier Sidrell Williams competing in the men’s 100m freestyle finished 8th in heat 5 after posting a time of 53.15 seconds. First place went to Uruguay’s Diego Aranda in 48.44s.
Jamaican participation continues on Thursday with Leanna Wainwright contesting the women’s 50m backstroke where she will swim from lane 3 in heat 2.
