Ghanaian Reggae Singer Blakk Rasta says Reggae was a calling

Ghanaian reggae sensation Blakk Rasta revealed that he was destined to spread the message of reggae music.

In an exclusive interview on Africa Forum with Kabu Maat Kheru yesterday, the singer shared his fascinating journey into the genre, citing his father’s influence and university days as pivotal moments that solidified his passion.

the Timbuktu Singer said growing up his father would bring home reggae music on cassette, planting the seeds of what would become a lifelong dedication. However, it was during his university years that his interest truly peaked. Surrounded by friends deeply entrenched in the reggae culture, Blakk Rasta found himself drawn to the genre’s powerful message and rhythms.

He noted that a defining moment came after watching a performance by the legendary Joseph Culture Hill on television with his mother. The iconic image of Hill smoking a ganja spliff sparked a reaction from his mother, but for the Ghanaian native it was a moment of revelation.

The Reggae Singer has taken his talents to the birthplace of reggae, as he is currently on the island to collaborate with veteran reggae artist George Nooks and shoot a video for the single. Following the shoot, Blakk Rasta will embark on a tour of Jamaica, connecting with the local music scene and fans.

He says this trip marks a significant milestone in his career, bridging the gap between Ghanaian and Jamaican reggae. With his unique blend of African rhythms and Jamaican-inspired beats.
