Suspect in Rockfort mass killing fatally shot by police

Police have shot and killed a man believed to have been a suspect in the mass shooting that left five people dead in Rockfort, Kingston last evening.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.

Head of the Kingston Eastern police, Superintendent Tommi-Lee Chambers, gave an update during a tour of Rockfort this afternoon.

She noted that security presence has been ramped up in the community, with support from police Area 4, special operations, and the Major Investigations Division (MID).

Superintendent Chambers said the swift police response led to the fatal shooting of the alleged suspect.

The Kingston Eastern commander noted that a curfew has been imposed on the community, to prevent reprisals.

She lamented that Rockfort went through 7 weeks of relative peace, before this incident, which she noted occurred while residents participated in a friendly football match.

Superintendent chambers said the members of the winning team were awaiting their prize, when they were pounced on by armed men.

Four of the five deceased men have been identified. They are 51-year-old Ortavia Austin, his son 29-year-old Okero Austin, as well as, 32-year-old Odane Joseph and Rosrick Thomas, all from Pleasant Height
