Opposition concerned about gov’t’s securitisation transaction involving future revenue from NMIA

Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson has expressed concern about the government’s recent securitisation transaction involving future revenue from the Norman Manley International Airport, NMIA.

This, following government’s issuing of a 12 year bond on 52.33 per cent of future NMIA revenues due to government.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Mr. Robinson questioned whether the move would impact the operations of the Airports Authority of Jamaica, AAJ.

In response, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke explained that the securitisation transaction will fund one-off initiatives and so does not raise the issue of sustainability.
