“This is not a joke!”- Jamaicans living in Florida urged to take threat posed by Hurricane Milton seriously
Jamaicans living in Florida in the United States are being urged to take the threat posed by Hurricane Milton seriously.
Milton which rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane is projected to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
America’s National Hurricane Centre has described it as an extremely life-threatening situation.
It comes just 10 days after Helene scoured Florida’s Gulf Coast with storm surge and slammed into the big bend as a Category 4 system.
An estimated 225 people were killed due to the natural disaster.
Now, officials are asking residents – still in recovery mode – to evacuate or prepare for another life-threatening storm.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, Consul General of Jamaica in Miami, Oliver Mair says Jamaicans should heed all the advisories.
Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has warned that the time for people to evacuate is running out.
The evacuation effort is reportedly the largest one in years.
In light of this, Mr. Mair is pleading with persons to evacuate quickly and utilize the designated shelters.
